Abstract

Objective: To investigate anti-hyperglycemic, cholesterol-lowering and HDL-raising effects of cumin (Cuminum cyminum) seeds-a non toxic natural therapeutic agent, in type 2 diabetes. Materials and methods: The therapeutic effects of cumin seeds were evaluated by comparing with antidiabetic drug in type 2 diabetes patients. A total of 20, type 2 diabetes patients were divided into control and experimental groups consisting of 10 each and treated with anti-diabetic drug and cumin seed (commonly used spice) powder (5g/day) respectively for 60 days. Results: Patients with cumin seed therapy significantly improved their glycemic control as evidenced by significantly decreased levels of fasting glucose levels, showed significantly decreased levels of cholesterol (47%, p<0.001), triglycerides (26%, p< 0.02), plasma free fatty acids (4%, p< 0.5), phospholipids (9%, p< 0.05), LDL- cholesterol (5%, p<0.5),VLDL-cholesterol (26%, p<0.02) and atherogenic index (21%, p<0.001) while significantly increasing HDL-cholesterol (10%, p<0.02). Conclusion: Cuminum cyminum seeds exhibited anti-hyperglycemic, cholesterollowering and HDL-raising effects in type-2-diabetes and the efficacy of cumin seeds was proved to be superior to the drug in ameliorating the abnormalities in lipid profile in diabetes patients. This corroborates with earlier reports on experimentally induced-diabetic rats.

Abstract

Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET) have been widely used for various applications such as military crisis operations and emergency rescue operations. The infrastructure-less nature and the dynamic topology features of MANET makes these networks highly vulnerable to various security issues .The primary requirement for the establishment of communication among nodes in mobile ad hoc networks is that nodes should cooperate with each other. With the existence of malevolent nodes, this requirement may lead to serious security concerns; for example, such malicious nodes may disrupt the routing process. In this context, preventing or detecting malicious nodes launching collaborative blackhole attacks is a challenge. This paper resolves this issue by designing a routing mechanism based on dynamic source routing (DSR), referred to as the cooperative bait detection scheme (CBDS). In this scheme, it integrates the proactive and reactive defense architecture and randomly cooperates with a stochastic adjacent node. By using the address of an adjacent node as a bait destination address to bait malicious nodes to send a reply message (RREP) and strange nodes are detected using a reverse tracing technique thereby ensures security. Simulation results are provided, showing that in the presence of malicious node attacks, the CBDS outperforms the DSR protocol in terms of performance metrics such as throughput and packet delivery ratio.

Abstract

All web servers that need to be guarded from buffer overflow attack must be registered with the proxy server, so that all user requests are directed towards proxy server, which in turn handles each request and processes the request using disassembling algorithm, if that request is found as legitimate request proxy server requests original web server else the request is blocked. This proxy server disassembles and extracts instruction sequences from a request, and then analyzes instruction sequences to find executable machine code. A machine code is a sequence of machine instructions in the form of hexadecimal executed by the machine in response to a service request. The proxy server is based on disassembling process. The BeaEngine is used for disassembling. The proxy server blocks the buffer overflow attack requests from reaching the web server.

Abstract

In this paper we are going to present the embedded based controller system that automatically mutes the volume of the television or any music system when an incoming call is arrived on a telephone. Very often when enjoying music or television at high audio level, we may not be able to hear a telephone ring and thus we miss an important incoming phone call. To overcome this situation, an embedded based system is designed. This proposed system would automatically light a bulb on arrival of a telephone ring and simultaneously mute the music system/TV audio for the duration the telephone handset is off-hook. Lighting of the bulb would not only indicate an incoming call but also help in locating the telephone during darkness. The whole project is using PIC microcontroller along with suitable telephone line interfacing circuitry.

Internet provides a way for people to access digital resources such as e-books, multimedia files and software etc. However, access and distribution of digital resources over the Internet have done harm to media providers, by capturing and re-distributing the digital resources by end users. Hence, intellectual property rights protection has become a major issue nowadays. Using secure communication over Internet can solve this issue. Secure communication needs two major concerns, i.e. authentication and content protection. The proposed system uses the concepts of digital right management to provide integrity service and security against replay.

Abstract

Vehicle class identification is an important task in pattern recognition. Identifying vehicle with cluttered background affects accuracy of the overall system. Removal of cluttered background from images gives better results in vehicle class identification. In this paper, the cluttered background and mild occlusions are removed from the static images. Statistical features are extracted from the background removed images. The statistical feature of master image is correlated with the features of images from the standard UIUC (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) database. This paper addresses the issues to identify vehicle class of real-world images containing side views of cars class with that of non-cars class. Critical evaluation of the proposed method has improved to an accuracy of 91.7%.

Abstract

In today's world safety and security plays an important role, hence we tend to provide a good safety and security system while travelling. Vehicles are important in today's fast-paced society. Hence, acquiring a vehicle nowadays is considered a necessity, compared to the past where it was considered a luxury. In this thriving society, more and more vehicles are produced to meet the increasing demands of people and businesses from all corners of the world. Here comes the necessity to provide more and more safety and security features to them. Hence this project aims to design an embedded system for vehicle cabin safety and security by modifying and integrating the existing modules. This monitors the level of the toxic gases such as CO, LPG and alcohol inside the vehicle and provides alert information in the form of alarm during the critical situations. And also send SMS to the authorised person through the GSM. An IR Sensor is used to detect the static obstacle in front of the vehicle and the vehicle gets stopped if any obstacle is detected. This may avoid accidents due to collision of vehicles with any static obstacles.

Abstract

The analysis of small-signal stability of conventional power systems is well established, but for inverter based microgrids there is a need to establish how circuit and control features gave rise to particular oscillatory modes and which of these have poor damping. This paper develops the modeling and stability analysis of autonomous operation of inverter based microgrids. Each sub-module is modeled in state-space form and all are combined together on a common reference frame. The model captures the detail of the control loops of the inverter but not the switching action. Some inverter modes are found at relatively high frequency and so a full dynamic model of the network (rather than an algebraic impedance model) is used. The complete models linearized around an operating point and the resulting system matrix is used to derive the eigenvalues. The eigenvalues (termed “modes”) indicate the frequency and damping of oscillatory components in the transient response. A sensitivity analysis is also presented which helps identifying the origin of each of the modes and identifies possible feedback signals for design of controllers to improve the system stability. With experience it is possible to simplify the model (reduce the order) if particular modes are not of interest as is the case with synchronous machine models. Transient stability results have been obtained from a microgrid of three 10-kVA inverters.

Abstract

Stress is an association of physiological and psychological reactions of a person confronted to a change of situation he cannot face. The relationship between stress and any disease is explained by hormonal modifications and behavioural changes induced by the stress. Research has suggested that stress and depression are two factors that play a role inthe development and progression of periodontal disease. It is not clear, however, whether these factors lead to periodontal disease through physiological or behavioural changes, or by some combination of the two. The purpose of the present review article is to explore the associations between psychological factors, psycho immunologic variables, behaviour, and clinical measures of periodontal disease.

Abstract

Compliment system is tradionally known as a cascade of anti microbial proteins in the blood. It is recognised as a key system for immune surveillance and homeostastis. It has a major link between the innate and the adaptative arms of the host immune response. They exist as pro enzymes and circulate as inactive forms. On activation, they become active, acquire enzymatic or esterase activity, react in particular sequence and cause damage to the neighbouring cells. This review discusses about the dysbiotic transformation of the periodontal pathogens that lead to destructive mechanism and loss of periodontal bone support.
